A Page from Our Past - a booklet prepared in celebration of our 140th Anniversary
December 15, 1867 the First Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Menomonie was formed. This congregation joined the Synod of the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church of America in 1874.
1870: Another congregation was formed under the name Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church. This other congregation was a member of the Norwegian-Danish Evangelical Lutheran Conference, which later united with other groups to form the United Norwegian Lutheran Church of America.
1871: The First Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church cooperated with St. Paul's Lutheran Church (German) to build a shared sanctuary on what is now the present site of St. Paul's Lutheran Church (WELS). That same year the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church built its own sanctuary on 6th St. and 10th Ave.
1877: The First Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church built its own sanctuary on the current site of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
1919: The two Norwegian Lutheran Churches united to form Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
1930: The present sanctuary was constructed.
1952: An education wing was built that included the fireside room, classrooms for Sunday School, offices, and a recreation room in the basement.
1965: Our Savior's called an associate pastor for the first time.
1966: The sanctuary was remodeled. In 1992 the current Friendship room, offices, library, and east entrance were constructed replacing some of the 1952 building. The congregation's 125th anniversary was celebrated.
2007: The congregation celebrated its 140th anniversary. First joint Thanksgiving Day service with St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
2008: The congregation renovated its chancel area in the sanctuary and installed video projection.
As of December, 2007 the congregation's membership numbered 1,938.
